= Pioneers (SF Novel) 1997 =

1997 Pioneers. In 1997, Brian and I added a novel titled Pioneers (SF) which I had written when I was 23 years old in the early 1970s, and which almost made it onto a New York publisher's list, but not quite. I carried the ms with me in a suitcase from New England (driving cross-country during severe winter snow storms in December 1974) to San Diego, and then by Boeing 747 to West Germany after I enlisted in the U.S. Army, and back to San Diego after my ETS in 1980. I did a slight polish by manual typewriter in 1981 (while two beautiful young Texas women slept in my bed in the adjacent room; they know who they are!), and a final rewrite (mostly to the next-to-ending chapter) in 1997 (by which time I had long since married Carolyn). In 1997, Brian and I published Pioneers on THV under the CTF colophon.

At right are two covers for Pioneers that Brian did in 2000 from a model I built. I made the two moons, as well as a model of the crashed sstarship lander. Brian had photos of Balboa Park in San Diego for the background. As best I can remember, the top picture would have been for the 1999 Rocket eBook (Nuvomedia/Gemstar) edition, and the bottom image for the 2000 print on demand edition. I have since made several other covers for this novel, which I'll try to show somewhere on this site. Copyright info as shown is from the 2000 print edition. The earliest ISBN for this novel (Rocket eBook now lost) was 0-7433-0002-5.
